Journalist Alumni Study Trip: Berlin-Ankara/Istanbul 2005

The Atlantik-Brücke e.V., Fulbright Commission, Dräger Foundation, German Marshall Fund, ifa, IJP/Arthur F. Burns Fellowships, Körber Foundation, RIAS Berlin Commission and Robert-Bosch-Foundation have invited over 60 Journalist Alumni to a week-long study tour taking them to Berlin, Ankara and Istanbul in October 2005.
The aim of this conference is to bring together young and experienced journalists with a special interest in German, European and Transatlantic issues. The conference offers discussion opportunities in all relevant und current fields including “migration”, “integration”, “social change” and “Germany in an international context”. It gives an in-depth look at the challenges and achievements that the ongoing developments in Central Europe impose on politics, the economy, media and cultural affairs.
During an initial three day stay in Berlin, Germany, participants will discuss relevant topics with leading politicians and diplomats at the German Chancellery, Bundestag and embassies, as well as with high level representatives of the media and private sector. In addition, there will be an opportunity to experience Berlin in its multicultural context through a cultural and sightseeing program. This will be followed by a three day visit to Turkey with meetings with high ranking politicians, opinion makers, entrepreneurs and key players in Turkish public life both in Ankara and Istanbul.
This conference is the latest joint initiative in a series of German-American conferences, which bring together key people in Journalism and transatlantic relation. The goals of these conferences are to refocus the attention on current developments and debates in Germany, to initiate new networking opportunities, and to maintain transatlantic exchanges with knowledgeable experts and friends.
